Many thanks for your letter of the 5th December.
I am glad that the suggestion of scholarships for Chinese
students at Hong Kong University has commended itself both
to the Acting Governor of Hong Kong and to the British Council,
and that the Council is prepared to finance the idea.
ships
I note also that you now feel that the Rhodes Trustees'
original offer of a grant of £1,000, to be spent over the
next four or five years, for post-graduate student-at oxford
for graduates from Hong Kong University, would be welcome.
The Trustees are to meet next Saturday, and I shall be able
to let you know their decision at the beginning of next
Wook.
